Nix Surname DNA Project
Traditional
genealogical research methods may never find all the connections between the
various Nix family groups. Also, ancestral links that are believed to be proven
may be inaccurate. Studying DNA from the male Y chromosome gives a definitive
way to determine the male-to-male lineage over generations. If your paternal
family tree research has hit a brick wall, and even if it hasn't, DNA analysis
could be the breakthrough you've been looking for. By scientifically proving or
disproving connections to other Nix family lines, it can provide genealogical
evidence that a paper trail sometimes cannot.
The goals of the project are to use the tool of DNA testing
to help Nix researchers answer these important questions:
v Which Nix
lines are genetically related and share a common ancestor in the historic past? Which Nix researchers should be collaborating with one
another to determine their common ancestor's identity? Just as important, which Nix
lines aren't related to one another?
v Nix
family trees that are believed to be correct on paper can now be scientifically
corroborated or disproven by comparing the DNA test results for two or more male
Nixes thought to be descended from the same Nix ancestor.
v What areas of
the world do genetic matches for the different Nix family lines come from, and what are
the ancient origins of the various Nix and Nicks families?
The Nix Surname DNA
Project results are available to all Nix and Nicks family tree researchers to
use for personal non-commercial purposes.
Any male Nix is eligible to be tested for the project,
and we encourage each of you (or your male Nix relative) to
get your Nix family's DNA tested. We
only ask that you send your documented Nix lineage via email to the
project administrator, so that your ancestral information can be included in the
results section.
The test itself is a painless cheek swab, and
there are no needles involved! You can
order a DNA test kit from Family Tree DNA through this link to get our
discounted group rate of $99 for the 12 marker Y-DNA test.
Family Tree DNA is the same lab that National Geographic uses for their worldwide Genographic Project.
So our test results are completely compatible with theirs. If you are a Nix or Nicks that has
already been DNA tested as part of National Geographic's DNA project, or has been previously tested through some other testing lab,
please consider sending us your results so that your family line can be included in the Nix surname project!
