Nix and Nicks Heads of Households in the 1790 US census

The first national census of the United States was conducted in the year 1790. This census listed the head of each household, along with the number of people in the household roughly grouped by gender and age. Researchers should note that records for many of the states have not survived. The only states for which original census records still exist are: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont. Of these states, only North Carolina, New York, and South Carolina had heads of household with the Nix or Nicks last name. It is also likely that many Nix and Nicks families lived in some of the states for which the 1790 census records are missing, including but not limited to: Georgia, New Jersey, and Virginia.

The following list was transcribed be me, Thomas Nix, from the original census records and is copyrighted. However, any Nix or Nicks family tree researchers are welcome and encouraged to freely use this information for non-commercial purposes. The Nix and Nicks heads of household in this list were located by using published indexes. It is possible that some individuals were omitted from these indexes. If you have any corrections or additions to this list, please send them to me at tnix@rose.net so that the correct changes can be made.

Lastly, the reader should note that those families who have had descendents participate in the DNA project are color coded in the census records with the same color coding system used on the DNA results table. This is done to make identifying members of the same Nix/Nicks family groups easier.
