Biography of Henry D. Nix
Nix, Henry D., enlisted 7 Feb 1863 at Blount Springs into the 29th Alabama Infantry Company F (the "Tiger Boys") which
was formed from men from Blount Co, AL. The muster rolls for May and Jun 1863 show him sick. He was captured at
Resaca on 14 May 1864, and then sent to Nashville. He was transferred to Military Prison at Louisville, Kentucky
on 21 May 1864, then forwarded to Military Prison at Alton, Illinois on 25 May 1864. Admitted to the USA Post
and Prison Hospital at Alton with typhoid fever on 12 Nov 1864. Returned to quarters on 22 Nov 1864. Admitted to
the prison hospital with rheumatism on 23 Nov 1864. Returned to quarters on 17 Dec 1864. Admitted to the prison
hospital at Alton with acute diarrhea on 24 Dec 1864. He died 25 Dec 1864. His widow Mary A. Nix (of Lamar County) filed a Confederate widow's pension application in 1889 and was approved.
