Biography of William A. Nix
William A. Nix was born in Union County, SC in 1789. He was the son of John Nix and Sarah. As a young man, he
moved to Georgia with his parents. On 3 Sep 1809, he married Susannah Stonecypher in Franklin County,
GA. With the onset of the Civil War,
William answered his state's call. Even though he was well over 70 years of age, and exempt
from military service, his still volunteered and joined Captain Logan's Company of
Georgia Calvary. His unit was also known as the White County Old Men's Home Guards.
He was elected 3rd Lieutenant
of the unit and remained in that rank until the unit was disbanded. William died in 1870 in White County, GA and
was buried in the family cemetery near his old homeplace.
